I know it's been a while since I last posted an entry here. The last few weeks have had me glued to yet another writing project, only this time, I am co-writing several articles with my boss. To make a long story short, the finished products will come in the form of Training Modules.
In addition, I returned to Lab work yesterday. I arrived for my first training day yesterday 30 minutes ahead of time because I was both excited and nervous. Though, I was mainly nervous at the thought of meeting new people (Med Techs). The day went well, however, and everyone at the Lab were quite friendly and welcoming to my relief.
I was assigned as a ROUNDER yesterday. A ROUNDER is someone who goes around (Emergency Rooms, ICU, WARDS, and Private Rooms) the hospital to take blood samples and EKGs of patients. Things went well for me yesterday as far as Venipuncture was concerned. Today, I was a bit disappointed because I didn't do as well as I did with blood extraction as I did yesterday. Ah, but, these things happen -- times when it's simply difficult to locate a patient's vein and you'd have to do it all over again (locate the vein, insert the needle) until you can finally draw blood into the syringe. I admit being a little rusty because it's been a while. But, given time, I'll get the hang of venipuncture again.
This afternoon (I had the 8 am to 4pm shift) I had the privilege of listening to a lecture and a live demonstration of the GEL CROSSMATCHING (Crossmatching procedure done prior to Blood Transfusions) technique. It was interesting. But, maybe only a Med Tech can say it was FUN, ha ha ha.
See yah soon! Hello to Marites, Emzkie, and all my blogger friends! Missed you all, guys!
